Lee County has settled a lawsuit over the firing of an employee who cooperated in an audit of the county’s dealings with VR Labs.

County commissioners will be asked to spend $108,044 to settle Lisa Wagner’s claims under the state Whistleblower Act and federal labor laws.

The agreement means the county is facing payments totaling more than $750,000 to employees fired after participating in the VR Labs audit.

Lawyers for the county and Wagner reached the settlement in court-mediated talks earlier this month. “What a long journey it’s been,” said attorney Benjamin Yormak, who represented Wagner. “This case cried out for settlement from the get-go.”
